GREENSBORO- Phillip Barnett (6’2, 220) signs with the Carolina Cobras for his eighth season of arena football. Last year, Barnett played two games with the Cleveland Gladiators. In those two games, he had nine receptions for 79 yards. In 2017, Barnett also played with the Wichita Falls Nighthawks, where he played for the current Cobras head coach, Billy Back. In nine games with the Nighthawks, Bennett recorded 41 catches for 320 yards and eight touchdowns. In 2016, Barnett played with the Tampa Bay Storm. He recorded 70 receptions for 687 yards and 13 touchdowns, his best season yet. Barnett played his first year with the Storm in 2015, where he recorded 34 catches for 339 yards and nine touchdowns. Earlier in 2015, Barnett played with the Nashville Venom. Barnett reunited again with Coach Back in 2014 when they were with the Venom. In 2013, Barnett played with the Texas Revolution when Back was their head coach. Barnett played with the Cincinnati Commandos in 2012. He started his career with the Commandos and played for Coach Back in 2011.
Barnett attended college at the University of Toledo. Although signing a letter of intent to play for Toledo, Barnett never did step onto the field to play a game.
Barnett is a native of Middletown, Ohio and played high school football at Middletown High School in Middletown, Ohio. In 2007, Barnett played in 10 games, caught 52 passes for 941 yards and 14 touchdowns. As a senior, he broke Chris Carter's single season TD record.
